A welding jig locates and clamps the components in the correct relationship and holds them there while the weld shrinks. That second part is the hard part: welds pull as they cool, and a fixture that only locates will still let the assembly move out of square. Ours are designed with clamping and heat-path considered together, so the finished assembly matches the drawing.
