What is crimp height and why does it matter?

It is the finished height of the crimped barrel, measured with a crimp height micrometer. Too high and the strands are not compacted enough to be gas-tight; too low and strands are cut, reducing pull-off force. Terminal makers publish a target and tolerance per wire gauge.

Do I need different tooling for each terminal?

Yes, in almost all cases. The applicator matches the terminal series, barrel size and whether it is loose-piece or reeled — which is why we ask for the terminal part number before quoting, not just the tonnage.

Can crimp quality be verified automatically?

Yes. Force-and-displacement monitoring across the stroke gives a signature curve that detects a missing strand, an under-inserted wire or a worn applicator, and can be logged per crimp.
