What is the difference between a jig and a fixture?

A jig holds the component and also guides the cutting tool, usually through hardened bushes, so accuracy comes from the jig. A fixture only locates and clamps, and accuracy comes from the machine axes.

Why must fixture datums match the drawing datums?

Because conformance is defined relative to the drawing datum scheme. A fixture located from convenient features measures a different relationship from the one the drawing controls, and will both reject good parts and pass bad ones.

Can you design for flexible or formed sheet parts?

Yes. Those need nett-form locators and compliant supports that take up variation without forcing the part into a shape it will not hold once released — plus a clamping sequence that does not distort it.
