Why does a leak test need a stabilisation time?

Filling compresses and warms the air, and that heat then dissipates into the component walls, dropping pressure for reasons unrelated to any leak. Stabilisation lets the transient settle. Cutting it to save cycle time is the most common cause of good parts being rejected.

How do you verify the machine is working?

With a calibrated master leak — a reference orifice of known rate fitted to a good part. That proves the whole system including the sealing fixture, not just the instrument, and is normally run at shift start and after any seal change.

Why is the sealing fixture so important?

Because most leak test failures are fixture failures. The fixture must seal every opening repeatably without distorting the part and present the same internal volume every cycle, since leak rate is calculated from volume.
